ten on tuesday

Link up for Ten on Tuesday at Roots and Rings.

 1. What are your designated chores in your home?

Me: Cooking, Dusting, Laundry, Vacuuming (occasionally,) cleaning the kitchen in general (except dishes.)
Nate: Dishes, Cat Box, cleaning the bathroom (mostly,) taking out the trash. Anything that involves heavy lifting.

2. What is your least favorite chore to do around the house?

Dishes. Ugh.

3. What was your designated chore growing up?

My sister and I did the dishes when my Mom cooked (when I figured this out I started cooking. I HATE DISHES.) and then whatever we were told to do, when we were told to do it. Mostly vacuuming and cleaning our room. We had a cleaning lady who did the bathrooms/kitchens/floors, so we only did those occasionally. (I make it sound like we were rich -- our cleaning lady came once or twice a month I think, it's not like we had a maid.)

4. Did you get paid to do chores or was your allowance connected to you completing your chores?

We sometimes got rewarded, but I don't think we ever got paid for them. We didn't really have an allowance, either, after a certain point. We just asked for money when we needed it. I guess when we were younger we'd do chores and such to earn money so that we could buy American Girl stuff, though. But we didn't get paid for every chore.

5. If you had a bit of extra money, would you hire a cleaning person or would you save the money for something else?

Probably save it for something else. We live in a <600 square foot apartment, we can handle the cleaning. =P

6. What chores will you make your kids do around the house?

Probably the same ones I had to do, depending on...stuff.

7. How frequently do you do laundry? Wash your sheets? Dust?

Laundry we do just about every week. Sheets...we probably need to do more often. And dusting? Hah. Once a month? When the patina of dust covering the entire apartment causes me grief because people are going to come over?

8. Do you have a designated “chore day” during the week?

Kind of Sunday, but it changes depending on what we have going on.

9. What is your favorite chore–if such a thing exists?

LAUNDRY! I just love it. It smells so fresh and clean.

10. Do you do anything to help pass the time while doing chores (music, TV, etc.)?

Music or the tv will usually be on.

Ten on Tuesday | Roots and Rings

0.01×10^2. What was your best/worst day in math class?

I hate a math. A good day was when I immediately grasped what was going on. A bad one was every other day, when I didn't ever really understand.
20×10^-1. Who was your favorite/least favorite math teacher? Why?

My favorite was probably a woman who I never actually took Math from as a class. I went to her 'math camp' between 7th and 8th grade so that I could try and take Algebra my 8th grade year. But then my schedule wouldn't let me actually have her class, so I got stuck with a guy who didn't teach. He was probably my least favorite math teacher, but most of my math teachers were pretty heinous. Although, I did have some pretty good math TAs in the college. Mr. Haciomeroglu. Try saying that five times fast =P (Or, just once.)

3×10^0. Is it okay to be bad at math if English is more your thing?
It's fine. Some people just aren't that good at math. That doesn't mean that you can just ignore math, because you might hurt math's feelings. Plus, it's sometimes kind of useful.

0.4×10^1. How does this video make you feel?

Oh. dear. god. (in other news, this made me watch the original evolution video and I want to strangle people. EVOLUTION IS NOT A THEORY. That is all.)
500×10^-2. What do you like/not like about math?

I dislike math. It's too absolute. But I like knowing how to do things, so there's that.
0.006×10^3. What makes someone a nerd?

You know, you can actually look up the definition of this? I believe nerd is more smart and less social.

7×10^0. Who is the nerdiest person you know?

Hmmm...I know a lot of nerds. This is not a fair question.
80×10^-1. What is the nerdiest thing you’ve ever done?

Mu Alpha Theta and Latin Competitions in high school?
0.9×10^1. Do you think GraphJam is funny?

Yup! But not really because of the graph part...
10×10^1. Have you ever used math outside of school?

Yes. I do use math on a daily basis. Mostly stuff like percentages for tips. Also for adding things together. You know, important stuff ;)

there is no rose (ten on tuesday!)

It's Ten on Tuesday time! Link up over at Roots and Rings =)

1. What are 3 things that are on your Christmas wishlist?

Some Tarte gift-sets from Sephora, some video games and a couple really expensive accessories. (I guess that's technically three types of things. Oh well.)

2. What’s your favorite Christmas song?

Coventry Carol. Or Rachmaninoff's Ave Maria, but that doesn't have to be for Christmas.

3. Do you have a favorite band or singer that sings it especially awesome?

Mmm...nope. I really just love the traditional setting of the piece, though. The King's Singers do it pretty well!

4. Have you heard about the website goodreads?

No...?

5. What are 3 books you want to read?

Well, I suppose I should finish the second book in the Game of Thrones series. Other than that, I am open to suggestions.

6. Do you hunt deer?

No. No hunting, period.
7. Have you started Christmas shopping? Are you completely finished?

Uhm...I think I have bought one Christmas present. I need to get on that.
8. Did you shop on Black Friday? What was the best deal you got?

Yup. I got a bunch of stuff at VS for pretty cheap!

9. What’s one holiday tradition your family has?

Again, we aren't big on traditions. But when we lived in Tallahassee, we used to go see a movie on Christmas Day afternoon.

10. How many blogs do you read? Do you subscribe/unsubscribe often or do you purge every once in a while?

Uhm...a lot. And I would unsubscribe, except every time I try to, Google makes it impossible for me to do so.

howl (ten on tuesday)

Oh, hello. Back into the swing of things for Tuesday. Glad it's only a four day week. So very glad.

It's Ten on Tuesday time! Link up over at Roots and Rings!

1. Do you wear glasses, contacts, or are you one of those perfect eyed people?

I am the blindest of blind. Actually, I guess the blindest of blind would actually be blind, but I have very near-sighted vision. My newest prescription (which was updated yesterday) is -7.5 in the right eye and -7 in the left. So...to actually answer the question, yes. To both. But I only wear glasses at home when I can't stand my contacts being in anymore.

2. What is the next item you are going to purchase?

...as a follow up to the first question, hopefully my new glasses from Warby Parker! Yea...finally. But I'm excited to actually have an updated glasses prescription (I don't do it very often, because I wear my contacts so often,) because it means I can wear my glasses outside of the house without having to squint at everything, anyway.

3. Have you ever watched Judge Judy or any other real court show?

For, like, two seconds. I hate that crap =P

4. How do you feel about fake nails?

They're bad for your nails! And honestly, they just bug me. I've tried them a couple times and can't get past the feeling. I run my nails into stuff too often, I'm always afraid I'm going to rip my whole nail off when I have them on.

5. What is your favorite sport to watch?

Mmm...gymnastics? Or figure skating.

6. If you could create your own Ben & Jerry’s ice cream flavor, what would it be and what would it be named?

It would probably be something they've already invented, but something that tastes like an almond joy would be a-ok by me.

7. Do you have any scars?

Random little ones from cat scratches, falls off my bike, etc. And then a big one from them slicing my toe open for my bunyon surgery. (Have I mentioned I'm an 80 year old?)

8. Does your pet’s name fit them? Is there a more appropriate name?

Well...I'm not sure if she's a whole lot like her name -- Mikaela. I think CrazyFace, which is what we call her half the time anyway, fits her better.
9. What is your favorite television show theme song?

I like The Big Bang Theory theme song, cause Nate and I sing it to eachother and each have our own parts to do. But I also like Friends. And How I Met Your Mother.

10. What was your favorite activity on the playground?

Our playground in elementary school was awesome, cause it was made out of giant tires that you could crawl around it. But I also enjoy the merry-go-round, until I start feeling sick.

Ten on Tuesday: Thanksgiving Time!

Link up over at Roots and Rings with Chelsea!

1. What are you doing for Thanksgiving this year?

Going out to eat, just me and Nate. We're going to McCormick and Schmicks down the street from us because a) it's supposed to rain and b) they promised traditional food. I want me Thanksgiving, yo!

2. What are you most thankful for this year?

I am thankful for a lot of things, but I think I am most thankful for both Nate and I having jobs that provide health insurance and paid time off (well, for me.)
3. Do you have any traditions on Thanksgiving? The parade? Football? Long naps?

Eating and then eating again? In Tallahassee, we'd have Thanksgiving dinner at my Grandmother's house (Dad's mom) early in the afternoon or Thanksgiving at my (parent's) house in the late afternoon. Then we'd all just lay around and chat until we were hungry again. I guess sometimes there's football on, but it wasn't a central focus.

4. Is it called stuffing or dressing? Is it in the bird or a separate dish?

Stuffing. And it tastes better from inside the bird, but I know that can be dangerous (or whatevs) so after a certain point, ours was a side dish.

5. Do you cook?

I did last year. And I think I remember helping my Mom some when I got older.
6. What is your favorite dish?

STUFFING. But really, Thanksgiving food is the best of foods. Favorited. Forever.

7. What is your dessert preference?

Pumpkin Pie and whipped cream. Lots and lots of whipped cream.

8. What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory?

Probably when my family went down to my Aunt and Uncle's house in the Keys, and all my Mom's siblings and kids (aka my cousins) were there. I thought my cousin Cam wasn't going to be able to come, but he showed up and it was lots of fun. Especially because I was kind of bummed that we were going out to eat and not making food, since my cousin Tim is a chef and I love Thanksgiving food so much. But then the whole family got DRUNK, so it was a fine and dandy time. (Minus some things I won't talk about. Hah.)

9. Do you plan to shop on Black Friday?

Maybe a little. Nothing hardcore. And probably later in the afternoon.

10. What are you most dreading about Thanksgiving this year?

...nothing? Out to eat = no dishes. Maybe that Nate will want to watch football all afternoon ;)

ten on tuesday!

Link up over at Roots and Rings, with Chelsea!

1. What are your pantry staples?

We actually don't really have any staples -- though we do always keep pasta on hand. Lately I've been keeping soup on hand, as well, because it feels good to eat warm soup on a cold day =) When I was living at home, it was Progresso soups and Red Clam Sauce.
2. What are your refrigerator staples?

Cheese, cheese and more cheese. And usually ranch and catalina salad dressing -- to marinade things, not to eat on salad.
3. You already look like Heidi Klum (or your favorite supermodel). Now, what are the top three non-physical things you would change about yourself?
  • I would destroy my inability to make small talk.
  • I would be nicer, naturally.
  • I would be more observant. I'm kind of oblivious, as it stands.
4. What’s holding you back from your dream job? (If you already have your dream job, how did you get there?)

The auditions that go along with it. If I could skip right to being an established, working singer it would be fabulous. But I hate, hate, HATE auditioning.
5. You have $500 to spend but it has to be on one item only. Go.

iPhone 4S for meeeeeee.

6. What is something that you are embarrassed to admit you buy on a regular basis?

Hmmm...I'm not really sure. I don't buy many things on a regular basis anymore.
7. What’s in/on your bed every night?

Me, the boyfriend. No top sheet, just a comforter. Lots of pillows. Sometimes the cat sleeps on my pillow above my head. Then she chews on my hair in the morning and I kick her out.
8. What is a non-necessity item that, no matter how expensive it gets or how tight your budget if, you will always find room for it?

Dessert! (Stitch is depressed. He needs dessert.) Also, eating out. It brings me some semblance of sanity to have someone serve me food every once and a while.

9. What is the weirdest sandwich you’ve ever made?

Remember in middle/high school, when you used to put your chips inside your sandwich? That's probably the strangest I've gotten. I make boring sandwiches.
10. Would you rather: Be banned from Pinterest forever, but gain a million captive Twitter followers; or, never get on Facebook again but gain five thousand blog readers?

Banned from Pinterest. *gasp* But it's true. I keep track of friends and family via Facebook, and I can't get that from Pinterest or my blog.

ten on tuesday!

1. What’s your favorite television show for each day of the week?

Monday: The Sing-Off
Tuesday: Chopped
Wednesday: America's Next Top Model
Thursday: Grey's Anatomy
Friday: ...
Saturday: whatever happens to be on TLC, Foot Network or HGTV. Although, last Saturday there was a  True Life MARATHON. Thumbs up.
Sunday: Sister Wives

2. How many times do you wear your jeans before you watch them?

Usually between 2 and 7 times. I do the wash once a week, and I usually wash my jeans.

3. What is your favorite pasta shape?

Spirals. Especially if they are tri-colored. Uhm...what do the Italians call it? Rotini!

4. Do you read newspapers?

Nope. I'm not up or down (or sideways, I suppose) with current events.

5. Do you sleep in socks?

Actually, socks are one of my most hated clothing items, so...no. Not unless it's FREEZING.

6. Favorite genre of movies?

This is hard. I love Horror, so I guess I'll go with that. I do love a good RomCom, tho.

7. How do you feel about wrestling?

Hate it. It's stupid.

8. Should men pluck their eyebrows?

I think men should trim their brows. You know, just general upkeep. Maybe get rid of a stray hair that's creeping toward the sideburns. But there's no reason for them to complete define the brow, the way women do.
9. Do you have dimples?

I have a weird indent on my cheek that happen when I smile, but only one. And it isn't a full blown dimple.

10. Do you like to camp?

It's good, when the weather is right. I don't like camping in the rain, though, that may just be because I had a bad experience with a non-waterproof tent.

ten on tuesday!

As always, link up with Chelsea over at Roots and Rings for your very own Ten on Tuesday fun!

1. You’re packing for a week long vacation, do you pack ahead of time or wait until the last possible minute to pack? Last possible minute? Maybe a combo of the two -- I'll pack (or at least think about) what things I need to pack in spurts ahead of time, but most of the packing is done last-minute. I wear most of my casual clothes on a regular basis, so the non-casual clothes can get packed earlier than the casual...which will probably need to be laundered before I bring them with me.

2. Are you a light or heavy packer? Heavy. I like to have options.

3. What are your favorite road trip snacks?
It's funny, as soon as I get on the road somewhere, all I want is a freakin' salad or some fruit. I think it's because I get dehydrated easily while traveling, so I want something crisp an cool. I do also enjoy corn nuts. =)

4. Do you take any reading material along?
Traveling by car, not usually -- I can't read in the car. Traveling by plane? Most definitely!

5. Do you prefer to drive or fly to your vacation destination?
I like both, so it really depends on how far I'm going and how much time I'm going to have when I get there!

6. What is your favorite time of the year to take your vacation?
I loved vacation in the Summer in Florida, to get away from the heat, but living in cold places, I love vacationing in the Winter, to get back to that southern warmth!

7. Where is your favorite place to vacation?
Anywhere, honestly. I just love traveling and being somewhere new!

8. You are vacationing in the mountains, what is your favorite thing to do while there?
Can we assume I'm staying at a cabin that has a hot tub on a porch overlooking stunning mountain views? Cause that's my favorite thing. Otherwise, I do very much enjoy hiking and being out in the mountains.

9. You are at the beach for your vacation,  do you like to take it easy on the beach or play all day in the water?
A combo. I love to be out on the beach and playing around, but I have very pale, sensitive skin so I have to be really careful about putting on sunscreen every two hours for the whole time I'm outside. That gets frustrating, so I usually spend about half the day out in the sun and the other half eating/drinking on a deck somewhere!

10. While your on vacation do you prefer to eat out every night or cook some of your own meals?
I like cooking, but one of my favorite thing about vacations is trying out new restaurants and types of food, especially things that are local. I will say the former!

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

headstrong today (ten on tuesday)

1. Red Sauce or White Sauce?

I like both, but usually red sauce.

2. Do your prefer pasta you can twirl or stab?

I like long spaghetti, but I'm bad at twirling it. I also like rotini, so...both?

3. Baked or boiled?

Boiled.

4. Do you like meat in your sauce or do you kick it vegetarian style?

Both? I do like a good meat sauce, though...

5. Where have you had your very best pasta ever?

Hmmm...I've had pasta a lot, but I can't think of any that sticks out as ridiculously good.

6. What is your favorite pasta dish?

I'm good with just spaghetti and sauce. And cheese, of course =)

7. Do you serve meatballs when you make spaghetti or just do a meat sauce?

Just meat sauce. I'll eat meatballs while we're out somewhere, but I don't make them.

8. What type (rice, whole wheat, egg, etc) of noodles do you use?

Regular! Sometimes whole wheat. Egg noodles if I'm making tettrazini.

9. What type of meats or vegetables do your put in your sauce.

Ground beef or pork, mushrooms, onions and spinach. Yum.

10. Do you make a "Sunday gravy" to use throughout the week or do you just open a jar of whatever and heat it up? (no judgement on this one!)

I buy canned/jarred sauce, usually. The jars we have now are from a super-sale where it was ridiculously cheap. So we're set for a while.

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

get set (ten on tuesday!)

It's Ten on Tuesday time! Link up over at Roots and Rings!

1. How do you take your coffee?
It use to be with as little coffee and as much sugar and cream as possible, but in the interest of not continuing to gain weight, it's now two teaspoons of sugar and about two tablespoons of flavored creamer.

2. Do you prefer soft or crispy chocolate chip cookies?
Soft and warm, straight out of the oven.

3. Do you wear a belt everyday?
Uhm...no. I very rarely wear belts.

4. What is your favorite color combination?
Gold/Silver and Green. Also, I very much like brown and blue.

5. Do you like sour candy?
Not really. It hurts my tongue.

6. How often do you do laundry?
Usually about once a week. Once every two weeks, if I feel like delving deep into my 'I don't wear these unless I have to' underwear stores.

7. Did you ever wear braces?
Oh yes. For not very long, but I had the headgear and everything. Thankfully, I only had to wear that at night. I wasn't the kid who had to wear it at school. Oh, the horror.

8. Are you good at Roman Numerals?
Somewhat. I used to be better.

9. What is your favorite form of social media?
I love most social media. Facebook and Twitter are my jam.

10. How do you feel about chin dimples?
They're kind of strange? We used to call them 'butt chins' in college. They can be attractive, on the right face, but I'm not enamored with them.

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

anything but this (ten on tuesday!)

I love Ten on Tuesdays.

Just thought I'd share that tidbit!

Link up over at Roots and Rings! (with Chelsea. And everyone else =)

1. What is your dream vacation?

EVERYWHERE.
But no, seriously. I want to go everywhere. Right now, I'm really dreaming about Egypt and Australia, though.
2. What has been your favorite trip so far in your life?

I have really enjoyed many trips I've taken. My graduation (from high school) trip to Ireland is one of my faves, but I also really liked the trip Nate and I took to Aruba when we first started dating. Oh yeah, and the 5-month road trip I took a year ago!

Aruba!

3. If you and one of your best friends could go anywhere in the world for one week, where would it be and why?

I'm going to not answer this like it's Nate, and choose one of my other BFFs. Like...Jess. We'd probably go to Japan. (Ok, Nate, you can come, too.)

4. Have you ever booked a trip using an online deal? How did it go?

Mmm..if you count getting "discounts" on hotels and airfare because you buy it off Expedia/Orbitz/etc. then yes? But I haven't specifically gone to a place because of the vacation package. We did come pretty close to doing an Alaska cruise because of that, though...
5. What’s your favorite thing to do while you’re on vacation?

I love just about anything: eating, tours, listening to local music, just walking around and taking pictures. I think being in new places is so much fun. I guess that's why I move around so much.
6. Have you ever missed an opportunity to take a trip that you regret?

Mmmm...no? Not yet, anyway.
7. You travel far away from home and get stranded with no way to buy anything, what’s the one thing you can’t live without?

Literally? Sunscreen. Otherwise I might very well die from sun poisoning...or have to sit inside all day. And that's no fun. (I'm assuming basic needs are available at this mystery destination...)

{via}

8. What’s one of your favorite traveling memories?

Hiking The Wave in Arizona. Ok, maybe not the actual hiking part, but actually walking into the formation after walking across three miles of desert is pretty. freakin. cool.

Also (just because I can't choose one,) getting to hold birds of prey while getting a falconry demonstration at Ashford Castle in Ireland. I think that's one of my dream jobs, working with raptors.
9. All included resort or backpacking? Why?

All inclusive. Let's drink, y'all!
10. Are you more of a lie on the beach kind of person on vacation, or do you prefer to see the sights?

I prefer a little of both, but mostly see the sights. Unless I'm sunburned from already seeing the sights. Then all I want to do is sleep. (I get sunburned often, can you tell?)

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

twenty-six...on tuesday?

It's Ten on Tuesday! But it's the alphabet, so it's really twenty-six. Love it =)

(as always, link up with Chelsea over at Roots and Rings!)

A. Age: 25. Quarter of a century.

B. Bed Size: King. It's huge and I love it.

C. Chore that you hate: Doing the dishes. Really, cleaning in general. I hate chores!
D. Dogs: Nope =(

E. Essential start to your day: Coffee.

F. Favorite Color:  Kelly green.

G. Gold or Silver: Silver, but gold looks better on me, I'm told. I just don't much like it.

H. Height: 5' 7"...ish

I. Instruments you play: Piano. And I sing. I can also pretend to play the guitar, if you'd like!

J. Job Title: Receptionist/Accounting Assistant

K. Kids: nope!

L. Live: Seattle, WA.

M. Mother’s Name: Anne

N. Nicknames: Kitty, Kits, Turtle, Caitrin, Caitie/Cate (I hate being called either of these,) E-Caitlin, Booshka, Mumbles...lots and lots.

O. Overnight hospital stays: When I was four(ish?) I had a case of Henoch-Shoenlein Purpura. It's a fancy term for hives inside your intenstinal track. Causes lots of vomiting, but mainly I went to the hospital because I was super dehydrated. A very green nurse put my IV in. It wasn't fun. I don't remember much else. For some people, HSP is recurring. Not for me!

P. Pet peeve: Flakiness, People who drive slow in the fast lane....using the term 'whenever' in place of 'when' (like, people say 'oh i did this whenever i was five.' it's when you were five, not whenever. you were five when you were five, not at some other random point!) bad spellers.

Q. Quote from a movie: "Strange women, lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!"

R. Right or left handed: Right.

S. Siblings: Just Elizabeth, my younger sister.

T. Time you wake up: 7:15/20ish. With just enough time to throw on clothes and get out the door.

V. Vegetable you hate: Asparagus. Beets. Peppers of any kind, spicy or not.

W. What makes you run late: Wanting to sleep more.

X. X-Rays you’ve had: Teeth, Foot (when I had bunyon surgery.)

Y. Yummy food that you make: I make excellent food in general, if I do say so myself, but Nate especially likes my sweet potato, onion, carrots and chicken bake.

Z. Zoo Animal: Big cats. Wolves. Birds of prey.

i believe

Ten on Tuesday! Join in over at Roots and Rings.

WOULD YOU RATHER:

1. eat chocolate covered grasshoppers or this freaky squid thing?
uh, that squid thing makes me want to barf and run away screaming so definitely the grasshoppers.

2. never see another movie or never watch TV again?
I guess never see another movie again, cause TV is more continuous than movies. But can I still listen to movie soundtracks? I would be sad without them...

3. be a superhero with a lame power or a supervillain with an awesome power?
Supervillain. MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

4. eat only salty snacks for the rest of you life, or only sweet snacks?
Ughhhh...I like snacks of all kinds. And no salt means no cheese, but...sweets. I have a major sweet tooth. Plus salt hurts my tongue/mouth and makes me feel disgusting.

5. never read another book or never hear another song?
Oh god. Book. I can't live without music. What a HORRIBLE choice this would be to have to make. I'd be SO SAD.

6. be a whale carcass remover or a sewer inspector?
Whale carcass remover. At least then the scenery changes every so often.

7. have no electricity or no running water?
No electricity. It's light outside during the day and you can cook over fire/with gas (which I prefer anyway, so...) Just means you have to only buy perishables that you can eat that day, and I'm fine with that!

8. be a dog or a cat?
Cat. Cats have it, hands down. Dogs are happy, but cats are awesome and they know it.

9. always be hot or always be cold?
Hot. I think I'd probably not last very long either way, though. I hate being cold, but I don't sweat very well so I get overheated easily.

10. be forced to watch all 3 High School Musicals on an endless loop, or the Twilight movies?
Twilight. I don't think I could handle HSM. I've never seen any of them.

Tuesday, September 6, 2011

ten on tuesday!

Welcome back from the weekend! I thoroughly enjoy 3-day weekends and personally think they should be mandatory for every weekend. I think I'd be much more productive during the week. For realz, y'all.

Now it's time for ten on tuesday! You can link up, as always, over at Roots and Rings.

1. What temperature do you keep your thermostat on during the day?
We don't have a thermostat except for heat (most of the time in Seattle it doesn't get above 75/80, so there isn't a whole lot of need for one.) In the winter I think we turn the heat off while we're at work and turn it on to somewhere between 70 and 75 while we're at home.

2. What temperature do you keep your thermostat on at night?
Off. Unless it's REAL cold. Then we might leave it on low.

3. In a canister of mixed nuts, do you pick out certain varieties and leave the others?
Cashews! I also love hazelnuts, almonds...brazil nuts...basically I just ignore the peanuts until the very end. And then I eat them if I'm really hungry. Or if they're honey roasted!

4. What is your favorite kind of M&M?
The M&M kind? I like the peanut ones. But mostly I just like the regular ones.

5. How do you buy books? (Amazon, bookstore, new, used, electronic, etc)
On my Kindle! Sometimes I'll buy something from the bookstore if it doesn't exist in electronic form, but that doesn't happen very often.

6. How do you like your eggs cooked?
Over Medium! Or scrambled. If they're scrambled, they need to be hard-scrambled, though. I don't like runny scrambled eggs =(

7. Can you whistle?
Yup. Both inwards and outwards, so I can whistle continuously without needing to breathe. It's pretty awesome.

8. What common word do you always misspell?
I don't often misspell words. I feel like I should have an answer to this, but I don't. Maybe I'll come up with one later on...

9. Are you afraid of flying?
Nope, I think it's awesome!

10. How often do you go shopping?

Uhm...as often as possible. Probably too often. I like shopping!

ten on tuesday: thank goodness it isn't monday anymore

Cause seriously, you guys? Monday was rough.

Anywho, head on over to Roots and Rings to link up for Ten on Tuesday.

1. Do you listen to the radio in your car?  If so, what type of station do you like?
I don't have a car, so I don't often listen to the radio anymore. But, if I do listen to the radio, it's usually a pop/rock/today's music station.

2. What is the best concert you have ever attended?
Hmm...I really enjoyed Rockapella. But I also enjoy this like orchestral concerts, so...it might be something totally awesome like Rite of Spring.

3. What is the most embarrassing concert you have ever attended?
Uh. Probably something during school. I dunno, though.

4. If you could have the singing voice of anyone in the world, who would it be?
This is hard, because I rather like my singing voice. But maybe someone like Adele or Jessie J.

5. You’re auditioning for American Idol.  What song do you sing?
Hmm...something like Realize, Bubbly or Brighter than Sunshine. Maybe a Ben Fold's song.

6. If your previous weekend had its own soundtrack, what would be a few of the songs?
This previous weekend was kind of a bust, to be perfectly honest. I think the Mario music would definitely be in there, though.

7. Most annoying television show theme song ever:
I like most tv show theme songs. Unless I also hate the show, then it's fair game!

8. Are you and your significant other music-compatible?
Yup. We are lovers of most music, so that makes it easy ;)

9. A song that brings me back to middle school:
B52's - Roam

10. A song that brings me back to high school:
Anything from The Last Five Years.

11. A guilty pleasure song (or three):
BSB - I Want it that Way, BBMak - Back Here...anything from Phantom of the Opera...yeah...

don't build your world around (Ten on Tuesday)

Link up with Chelsea, over at Roots and Rings.

1. What do you do for a living?
I'm a Receptionist and Accounting Assistant at the Seattle branch of a Nation-wide Tradeshow and Event Planning Company. My branch mostly does booths for Microsoft at events.

2. What’s your favorite thing about your job?
Honestly, the people I work with. Our Accountant is awesome, we have a grand old time on MSN Messenger most of the time. Also the fact that my office is a 15 minute walk from my house.

3. What’s your least favorite thing about your job?
Answering the phone. I don't like phones. (I guess probably shouldn't be a receptionist, then ;)

{via}

4. If you weren’t a ____________, what would you be?
Hmmm...what would I like to be? Rich and not working ;) But seriously, I'd love to work for Travel Channel, even if it's just doing research for places that shows travel to. I'd also love to sing for a living.

5. What is something that you would love to get paid for that you think no one would ever pay you for?
Traveling around and blogging about it! (as a sidenote, Sears almost paid us for part of AdventureSunday. But I guess we didn't make the final cut of their contest. Boo.)

6. If you could have any job for exactly one day, what would it be?
I'd be an air force pilot. I wanna fly jets!

7. If you had to do manual labor, what would you do?
Construction, I think. Of pretty much any kind. Tools are fun.

8. What is something you were forced to learn in high school that was supposed to be super important, but you never actually use?
Algebra. Geometry. Anything that involves math? (ok, some of the math I learned in school is useful...)

9. Who was your favorite boss?  Why?
Hmmm...probably my bosses at Maho. They were so awesome and laid back.

10. Where would you rather work: Dunder Mifflin Paper Company (The Office), Wernham Hogg Paper Company (The Office, UK), or Initech (Office Space)?
Totally Initech. Totally. (TPS Reports, anyone?)

ten on tuesday: tandy 400

(please tell me someone other than me recognizes the computer in the title? anybody?)
1. Mac or Windows? (Or Linux for you super geeks!)
Mac!
2. What drew you to that operating system?
It's pretty.
But seriously, I was a Windows girl for a really long time. Then, I got fed up with how bulky, heavy and overall annoying my Compaq laptop was and started playing with my boyfriend's Macbook. The rest is history.
3. Mice – Wireless or Wired? Mouse pad or none?
Hmm...wireless is cool, but I've had problems with them. And definitely mouse pad. I hate that scritchy on-the-desk mouse sound.
4. Other than the Internet – What do you use your computer most for?
Games, probably. Sometimes writing.
5. What’s one computer-related thing you wish you were best at? (CSS, Photoshop, Excel, etc.)
I would probably up my Photoshop or web-building skills, but my boyfriend does that for me now, sooooo... ;)
6. Describe the first time you ever used a computer.
Pretty sure it was playing Oregon Trail in school. But we've had a computer in my house since I was 9, so that's pretty darn early. I remember playing Lemmings, Number Munchers, Reading Rabbit and Kings Quest 3!
7. How often do you upgrade to a new operating system?
I don't really care how often it gets updated, but my BF likes to be up to date, so usually my computer gets updated.
8. Are you a short-cutter (CTRL+C) or a right-clicker?
I used to be solely a right-click kind of girl. Now I'm a combo of the two.
9. Is computer-use a constant thing in your life (such as using it both at work and home) or do you get a break (because you don’t use them at work)?
I use computers pretty much 24-7, if you include my iPhone. I love the computer and think it's a wonderful invention!
10. Where do you think the world would be if personal computers did not exist?
In a sad, sad place. But seriously, think of how many advancements have been made with the computer. And I know I, personally, wouldn't be in as close contact with any of my friends/family if it weren't for computers, since I hate the phone.

Ten on Tuesday: Laundry Time!

It's Ten on Tuesday time! Link up with Chelsea over at Roots and Rings.

(I'm kind of really excited about these, cause laundry is one of my favorite chores. FAVRIT!)

1. Do you do laundry all at the same time or a load here and there?
Usually all the laundry gets done at once. We do occasionally spread it out over two days, if we started it too late the night before or something. But there isn't usually a single load done at any point. We have coin-op, so we can save money if we don't let the dryer run the whole cycle every time.

2. What kind of detergent do you use?
Usually Gain, because I like the scent, but we'll switch it up sometimes. Tide is good, too.

3. Do you use fabric softener?
Nope.

4. Do you use dryer sheets?
They are a necessity. Bounce Original Fresh Scent is probably one of the best scents ever created and I wish my whole house could smell like it all the time. I may or may not have a picture of me holding a Bounce box to my face and smelling it. (I'm an addict, y'all. I should be a Bounce spokesperson, for serious. (Hello, Bounce reps?))

5. Do you iron your own clothes or take them to a cleaner to get pressed?
Neither? We don't own an iron and I have never in my life taken clothes to a cleaner to get pressed.

6. Do you like heavy starch or light starch?
Does anybody actually still use starch? I don't think we even had starch in the house growing up...except, you know, for cooking.

7. Do you wash all your laundry at once or separate it?
Separate it. Usually whites/grays/khakis, colors, black&jeans and delicates. Sometimes the black&jeans and colors will be one load.

8. How do you separate it? By people or by colors?
See above. We usually do the laundry together, so our laundry goes together. Nate isn't a gross boy, so it's okay for me to touch his undies ;)

9. What clothes get hung up and what goes in drawers?
I hang up everything I can, partially because I have a fair amount of clothes and partially because we don't have a lot of drawer storage.
Hangers: Jackets/Cardigans/Blazers, Scarves (all on one hanger, together,) Work/Nice Tops, Dresses, Sweaters, Work/Nice Pants/Skirts.
Drawers: Workout/Sleep Tops, Tanks/Camis, Long/Short-Sleeved Tees, Casual Pants/Shorts/Skirts
Closet (folded, not hung): Sweat/Workout Pants, Hoodies, Rompers. And shoes!
Cubbies: Socks, Underwear, Sports Bras, Leggings/Tights.

Now you know where to find all my clothes.

10. Do you use plastic, wire, or wooden hangers? Do they all match?
We have all plastic, but we have some white ones, some teal ones and some green ones.

knock, knock, knock (ten on tuesday)

It's Ten on Tuesday time! Head on over to Roots and Rings if you want to do it, too.

1. What colour are your toenails painted?
They aren't. I am bad at getting pedicures because I'm super ticklish -- like, I can tickle my own feet (no, really) -- and bad at painting my own nails, so they go au naturale.

2. What colour are your fingernails painted?
Sparkly purple!

3. What is your favourite brand of nail polish?
OPI stays on me the best. But I enjoy Essie's colors.

4. As the norm, do you DIY your nails or get mani/pedis?
Not anymore. I got spoiled working at a nail salon and having my nails done by professionals.

5. Have you ever had a gel mani?
I have one right now. They're pretty much the only kind I get any more, because I can't keep regular polish on my nails for more than three or four days. And, since I don't have the perks of having them done (or money to pay sometime to have them done) every week, I get the gel. If I'm careful about my nails, they can last three weeks!

6. What is the last movie you watched on television?
Started watching Castaway on Saturday morning? I don't know that I've watched a movie all the way through on TV in a while. Most of the time I catch things in the middle. And if I really want to watch something, I just go find it on Apple TV.

7. What is the last movie you watched in the cinema?
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II (in 3D...wooh.)

8. Is there a movie that everyone talks about as if it is a classic but you haven’t seen?
I have lots of these, apparently, but I've been working my way through them. Most recently we watched Schindler's List. Now we're still working our way through Amadeus. I think next will be Amistad.

9. What is your favourite movie soundtrack?
This is hard because mostly, I just love everything Hans Zimmer does, namely Pirates of the Caribbean (especially the 'He's a Pirate' theme.) But, I am also a fan of John Williams (even if he is a plagiarist.) And I very much enjoy the themes from the first (Michael Bay) Transformers movie.

10. Have you ever seen a movie and thought it was better than the book it was based on?
Not that I can think of off the top of my head, but I do think that certain movies are just as good as the books they were based on. Fight Club, I think, is an example of this, mainly because the movie is almost verbatim the book. Usually, though, you have to look at them as completely separates medias. A book can't do what a movie can do, and vice versa.

As a side note for this last question: I really love the soundtrack aspect of movies, which you don't get in books. I used to pick a CD, usually a movie soundtrack/instrumental piece, to listen to while reading books, so that they could have a soundtrack. The first Harry Potter soundtrack makes me think of reading Clan of the Cave Bear. This sometimes makes books a more encompassing experience for me. I don't do it as much anymore, though.

Ten on Tuesday: going to the zoo

per the usual, link up over at Roots and Rings!

(I'm answering this for Tallahassee, because I haven't really been to a zoo multiple times since then!)

1. What is your favorite zoo to visit?
I really enjoy the Junior Museum in Tallahassee (it isn't called that anymore, but I dunno the actual name.)

2. Do you visit a zoo very often?
Nope!

3. Do you have a membership to a zoo?
My family had one to the Junior Museum, but then we stopped going as often so we stopped getting memberships. My dad gets free passes when the Swing Band plays there for events and stuff, though, so we very rarely have to pay to get in. My grandmother may still have a membership. I dunno, I don't live there anymore =P

4. When you visit a zoo, do you stay all day or just an hour or two?
We stay for a couple hours. Not usually all day, unless it's a LARGE zoo. Or there's lots of activities...or it's in/near a theme park ;)

5. Do you buy food at the zoo or pack a picnic lunch?
I'm not pick on packing lunches, but I'll usually pack snacks. Sometimes we eat sometimes we don't.

6. What is you favorite animal to see at the zoo?
I love Otters. And the big cats, especially the tigers. Ooh, and the birds of prey. Those are probably my favorite.

7. What is your least favorite animal to see at the zoo?
Mm...I like most animals. Maybe not bugs? But even bugs are pretty cool...

8. What is your favorite memory of going to the zoo as a kid?
Probably going for the Native American Festival. We went every year in elementary school and got to see weaving, flint knapping, food making, canoe making and other stuff. It was super cool, even if it didn't really involve animals.

9. Do you visit the gift shop when you go to the zoo?
Yup. They have ridiculous things there. Like...animals hats. Hehe.

10. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best and 1 being the worst) how nice is your city’s zoo?
It's pretty good -- clean, spacious. It isn't super fancy, though. It's a lot of native animals that can't be released into the wild because they're injured. The "visiting animal" enclosure isn't very nice or large, but the animals aren't there for a very long time. There's also a working farm, which is cool. I'd give it a 6.
