i know it's not you

I think Seattle is teasing us, with the weather, recently. It's beautiful -- gorgeous, even -- during the week. While we're all sitting inside, staring out the window at the crisp blue sky. I get a taste of it walking to and from work, especially during lunch, when it's still early enough to be cool and breezy, despite the warmth of the sun. And then, you get to Friday and it starts raining (or is at least overcast) and it doesn't get really pretty again until  Monday morning, when you're on your way to work again. Another day of staring at the blue sky out the window. Le sigh.

I shake my fist at you, Seattle weather.

When I was out with Jess (my BFF from 4th grade) last weekend, we talked about learning how to sew again. I say 'again' because we took several sewing classes together when we were in elementary/middle school at ARC. ARC (the Academic Resource Center) is a place that they shunted the kids in the gifted program to for one day a week in elementary and middle school from all the schools in the county, where we got to have a somewhat college-y experiences and choose classes to take from different types of classes. (e.g. I took a Stop-Motion Animation class, a code-making/breaking class, a website creation class, a camera and developing class, a mini Vetrinary internship etc. while I was there) I'm not actually sure how I got into the gifted program, because in elementary school, the testing was all about logic. While I am intelligent, I am not entirely (and certainly wasn't as a kid) logical, so....what? In any case, Jess and I took at least two (if not more) sewing classes while we were there together -- we went to elementary and middle school together, then split up for high school, but at that point you didn't go to ARC anymore. I guess they figured high school class rotation was close enough to what was happening at ARC, anyway.

See, that's me all the way on the right (and Jess directly to my left.) I was obviously the COOLEST KID IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, GUYS. This must have been 7th grade, becaue I had my glasses already, but really, check out that polar-fleece mock turtleneck jacket with a WOLF PRINT. I made that. I had skills. Don't you wish you were as cool as me? Yeah, that's what I thought.

So, despite the fact that we were drinking when we exclaimed to eachother, last weekend, that we wanted to learn how to sew again, I took the time to look up some classes in the area. Jess is moving from Queen Anne to Capitol Hill soon -- much close to me, yay! -- and I found a crafting/sewing supply store that offers classes in two sessions for both beginning and intermediate sewing, for $50. Sold! Excited to learn how to use a sewing machine again. Plus, we get a pair of pajama bottoms out of it. Awesome!

Do you sew or craft? Did you learn to do something when you were younger that you wish you could remember now? Let me know!

also, here is another picture of me in middle school. for your enjoyment.

I was so cool, you probably wouldn't have wanted to be my friend. Jnco shirts and OVERALLS. Yo.

That should say "Krys," by the way. My K key sometimes stops working...
